Things to do in Pisa

Pisa was once a maritime power, a rival to Italy’s strongest port cities likes Genoa and Venice. Today it is more commonly known for its beautiful and iconic 13th century monuments: the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Cathedral and the Baptistery all found within the Piazza dei Miracoli (Square of Miracles). Visitors to Pisa always thoroughly appreciate the architectural and artistic quality that found in this square although one must not forget that the city has much more to offer. From its many famous churches and its significant museums, there is much to be discovered in this compact and compelling city. Pisa is found at the junction of the Arno and Serchio rivers, and it was referred to already as ‘an old city’ by Ancient Roman authors. As such, there is much to learn about the history and the role that the capitol of the Pisa Province had in Italian history. Education has propelled local economy since the 1400’s and students in Italy still compete for places in its university.
