Things to do in Benfica Stadium

4.5/5 (380)

The home of Portugal’s most storied football club is a mecca for sports fans. The Stadium of light – Estádio da Luz – has witnessed some of the club’s greatest nights. Completely rebuilt into a state-of-the-art venue in 2003, it has since hosted the final of the European Championship and the Champions League. A museum chronicling the trophy-laden history of Benfica, winner of more Portuguese league titles and cups than any other club, was added a decade later. Benfica was also the first Portuguese team to win the European Cup, led by Eusebio, the legendary ‘Black Panther’. Stadium tours, which include visits to changing rooms and press room as well as the half of fame, are available. You can also meet the club mascots, a trio of American bald eagles. Plus, there are cafés and restaurants to enjoy a refreshment or grab a bite to eat.
