You won’t want to miss Hanover’s New Town Hall during your city break here, it’s a seriously impressive piece of architecture. It officially opened its doors in 1913, but took 12 years to build – when you see how big it is in person, you’ll understand why. Despite being the city’s town hall and the official residence of Hanover’s mayor, looks-wise it’s more like a castle, with three massive mint-green towers jutting out from its terracotta roof – you can even take a lift up to the top of the central one. Inside the town hall, you can check out artwork and exhibitions focusing on Hanover’s history. Outside, meanwhile, be sure to relax with a stroll around the pond and nearby gardens – this place is nestled in the middle of a 25-acre public park.
