Things to do in Moco Museum
The Modern Contemporary (Moco) Museum in Amsterdam houses modern and inventive works by proven pioneers and protagonists, the so-called “Rock Stars of Art”. The museum was founded in April of 2016 and is located in the historic townhouse Villa Alsberg, which overlooks Museumplein in the heart of Amsterdam. It sits next to the Van Gogh Museum and only a short walk from Rijksmuseum.
Moco Museum contains permanent and temporary exhibitions. The first exhibition, Banksy: Laugh Now is a permanent exhibition that holds around 50 works from the street artist. The temporary exhibitions from other artists generally change around every 9 months. With exciting exhibitions and high-profile guest curators, Moco fulfils the need of a large audience.
You can access the museum a number of ways. Moco is a 10-minute walk from Leidseplein. If you're coming from Amsterdam Central you can take the metro line 52 to Vijzelgracht station and walk 7 minutes or take either trams 2,12, or 24 which stop nearby at Rijksmuseum.
The museum has a small gift shop on the ground floor where you can buy souvenirs from some of the contemporary and modern artists exhibited. So, whether you want to explore the wide range of works by the street artist Banksy, or take a glance into the art of world-famous pop artists, such as Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, the Moco Museum is a must-visit!
